50th Anniversary Celebration

This past weekend we traveling to my hometown to celebrate my aunt & uncle's 50th anniversary. 50 years.....for better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health..... their love and dedication to each other through the years is so inspiring and we were thrilled to be able to honor them with a great party. It was a beautiful celebration!
Happy Anniversary Auntie M and Uncle Jay!

Happy Fall!

Today being the first day of Fall, I had to write on my blog. I just love the Fall - or "football season" as it is referred to in my house! :) The weather is cooler and crisp in the morning and the leaves are going to start turning colors at any time -- I can feel it in the air! If you live in Boise and want to see some beautiful Fall colors - just drive through the HP campus. I know this sounds weird but it truly is BEAUTIFUL!

Since this is my first post in a few weeks, I must tell you the reason - I misplaced my camera! And I felt like I really needed an interesting story to just write without posting a photo. And well....my life just isn't that interesting right now. Ha ha ! :) Seriously, blogging is sort of like working out for me - I do great if I stay consistent but if I miss a few days (or weeks!) it is really tough to get back into it! The good news is that I have found my camera again so I will be ready to post again soon. Just in time to post cute soccer pics, the all-important Halloween pics, etc.

Again, Happy Fall! See you soon!

All dressed up in her new uniform (so cute!)

A BIG backpack for BIG school

Me too! I am going to school too!

Here is Aubrey on her first day of Kindergarten! I think every mom will always remember their child's first day of school....so full of all kinds of emotion. (My mom says she still remembers my first day of Kindergarten....after ALL these years!) :)

Officially a Soccer Mom

We went to our first meeting for Aubrey’s soccer team last night and the big task was for the kids to pick a team name. There were only four kids there and all of them had a different idea…..Monsters…..Robots…..Horsies…..Puppies! Oh my – it was so hard not to burst out laughing! My laughter wasn’t so much at the names but at Dads who I know were just dying at the thought of their child playing on the tough-sounding Puppy team! To everyone’s credit – all of them were very supportive and the coach wrote all the names down and said that we would have a vote later. We’ll see how it shakes out. Deep down, I really hope the Horsies name wins…..only because it will be SOOO fun to tease Bill about being a coach of the Horsies! :) (This has been a long standing joke in our family because whenever we would go through the Arby’s drive-thru, they would ask “would you like any ketchup or ‘horsie’ sauce with that?” I always wanted horsie sauce - just so he would have to ask for it…but he NEVER would. It would always be “Yes, we’ll take some horseradish, please”.) Well, it all might be coming full circle…..GO HORSIES! :)

I’ll post pictures at the first game. All the soccer stuff is so cute! Aubrey is all decked out with shin guards, LONG socks, Nike soccer shoes with a pink swoosh and a pink ball (of course!). Fun Stuff!

Just one of the reasons I love my husband.....FLOWERS!

From the heading, you may think that Bill bought me flowers. Well, he did...sort of .....but not in the traditional sense. Here's the story -

I have wanted new dishes for a long time. The ones that we received when we got married were nice but were pretty plain and were starting to look a little ragged. Now in the grand scheme of things, I couldn't really justify buying new dishes when our were really still just fine. But I really wanted something FUN. In fact, I have ALWAYS wanted to have two sets of dishes - one for summer and one for winter - but that is a story for a different time! Here's where the flower part comes in....I was at Costco the other day and fell in love with these aqua and brown dishes. I mean I really, really wanted them - they made me smile just looking at them! BUT......they had big whimsical flowers on them and I didn't think my husband would go for it in a million years. I kept thinking about them and decided to throw the idea out to Bill - knowing that there was likely NO WAY he was going to go for flowery dishes. Well, guess what......as you have probably already guessed the ending....he went to Costco and bought them for me! And they really do make me smile every time I use them! What a guy....I love you Bill!

Now...who wants to come over for dinner so you can see my new dishes? (The oversize dinner plates are just plain aqua and brown - for the guys. The ladies, of course, will be served on the FUN ones!) ;)

10-year Anniversary!

Our engagement photo

Our trip to London (PK - Pre-kids)

Our first "family" Christmas card - 2003

Christmas 2005

A little over a week ago, we celebrated our 10-year anniversary. Ten years…I cant believe it! We dusted off our wedding video and watched it on Friday night with the girls. Aubrey especially likes the ‘choosing’ part. (It is so funny to me to hear how things are perceived in a 4-year old’s mind…..we went to my cousins wedding a few weeks ago and she watched the beautiful bride walk down the aisle and ‘choose’ one of the guys dressed in a tuxedo at the front!) She was very glad that I chose her Dad…I am so glad too! :)

I am going to post a few of my favorite pictures from the past 10 years that I have sitting here on my desk. I can truly say that I feel so blessed to be married to my best friend and can confidently say that he is the man God intended just for me!

I have been playing with the backgrounds for my blog but have decided to keep this water scene for one more a few more days as a tribute to our anniversary. Our “story” really revolves around water. (1) We met on the water (the sternwheeler in Portland), (2) our first date was at a restaurant on the water in Portland, (3) Our first trip on the water- we went on a cruise together really early in our relationship (Why not?!?! We were both adventurous and in serious need of a break from our sales jobs and I knew we would either fall madly in love or find out that we couldn’t stand each other!) :) (4) Bill proposed on the water - during a Sternwheeler dinner cruise very similar to the one on which we first met, (5) We honeymooned on the water (Cancun), (6) and finally, on our 10-year anniversary trip earlier this summer at a resort outside Las Vegas, he proposed to me again on the water - with a new ring even! This is a cute story (and I hope he doesn’t mind me sharing it!). I was in my ultimate vacation mode – floating on an air mattress in the pool under beautiful palm trees when he swam up beside me and asked me if I would marry him again! He had a beautiful ring that had had three diamonds – the large one in the middle signifying our love and the two smaller ones signifying each of our girls. WOW ….I was speechless! We are going to re-new our vows sometime in the next few months at a cute little historic church here in Boise. Here’s to 10 more wonderful years together! (And many more beyond that!)

Vandal Picnic 2008

The girls looked adorable in their Vandal cheerleading outfits and even Bill put on his Vandal hat for the event! A and J go back and forth on whether they are bigger Vandal fans or Cougar fans but they were all Vandal on Saturday! I-D-A-H-O.....Idaho, Idaho....Go, Go, GO!!

I have a blog???

Four words I thought I would never say...."I have a blog". Yes, its true.... I have actually created a Tackett Family blog to share pictures and stories with friends and family. I have been inspired by a couple of friends who have amazing blogs that I always look forward to reading. Now don't get me wrong.... I am not aspiring to be in that 'amazing' category but I do think there is great value in being able to share photos and stories with friends and family. We are not able to get together nearly as much as we would like with the people in our lives who mean so much to us. Hopefully, this blog will help us feel a little more "connected".

A huge thank you to my friend Deanna who helped me get started in the blogging world! It really is as easy as she said it would be! If you have ever thought of starting a blog yourself - I would encourage you to do it! (And send me the link to your blog...its a a great way to stay connected!) :)

GO VANDALS!!

It takes a LOT of Vandal pride to survive in Boise - the land of Bronco blue and orange. There is a great Vandal picnic every summer in Boise that reinforces and strengthens my Vandal pride enough to make it through the football season with my head held high! Fortunately, we have some great Vandal friends here in Boise to cheer with! The girls have heard the Vandal fight song since birth and are now proud 'future Vandals" as well. (Although their dad would argue that they are future Cougars!) This year's Vandal picnic is July 19....I cant wait!

Tea Party

Aubrey and I had a great time at the Tea Party, hosted at our church. To go along with the fun little finger food, there were so many great hats for everyone to try on and wear. Aubrey said that she felt like a "fancy lady"!

Easter

Easter is one of my favorite holidays (a close second to Christmas!) The most important reason, of course, is that we celebrate our Lord and Savior. I also love that the flowers are starting to bloom and it feels like a fresh beginning! (Truly, I am also a big sucker for a good egg hunt and fun easter baskets as well!) My mom started a fun tradition when we were little that we would get a new spring outfit every year - which is a tradition that I love to continue with my girls. This year they had on the cutest matching pastel dresses with little pink sweaters (OK, Aubrey's was a poncho...she would insist that I point out the difference!) :)

Hula Girls

Grammie Yates went to Hawaii and brought back these cool hula skirts! Aubrey has got the moves down (including the swivel hips!) :)

Uncle Ken's Wedding

These pictured were taken at Uncle Ken's wedding in Seattle last summer. Aubrey and Jessica had a GREAT time with their cousins Jenny and Megan. Aubrey has been bugging us almost daily to go back to Seattle so she can see them!
